Description
he G·Loomis Popping Rods were originally designed for casting live shrimp under a popping cork out on the flats, but freshwater anglers have gotten ahold of them and found umpteen other ways to use them as well. These rods have a relatively soft tip which allows your bait to land quietly, even on long casts. At the same time, they're surprisingly powerful rods, capable of handling large fish-including that occasional surprise tarpon or oversize snook. They come in a variety of lengths for different applications, including spoons, bucktails, surface lures, tubes, grubs and live bait. Bass and walleye anglers tell us they prefer the Popping Rods' softer action for a number of situations, especially fishing crankbaits. Each rod features a cork handle with a 9" rear grip offset approximately 12 degrees to minimize wrist fatigue and improve casting control. The reel seat features blank-thru-handle construction, with a one-inch cutaway in front of the trigger that we call "mag-touch." By exposing the blank in this spot, your index finger makes direct contact with the blank giving you even greater sensitivity. Oversized guides allow plenty of room for big knots and heavy shock tippets. PR8400C Most flats anglers would refer to this as a light-duty popping rod, but don't let the soft tip fool you. It has plenty of power to handle big specks and reds. It really shines casting minnow-imitating plugs like the Long-A, Rapala, and Rebel Minnow. PR8400S Most flats anglers would refer to this as an ultra-light popping rod. It has an extremely fast tip for fishing light line and small jigs or live bait, but the butt section has plenty of power to handle bigger fish. A good choice for sight-fishing redfish, bonefish and other flats species. PR842-2S Lots of anglers love the 842, but prefer a two-piece version so they can stow it in their truck or the side pocket of the boat. Here it is. PR842S A truly outstanding spinning rod for bonefish on the flats, the 842 has a light tip, yet plenty of power in the butt section to handle jigs, surface lures or live bait. It fishes at its best with 8-pound line. Freshwater trout anglers will like it for trolling with blades and bait for the lake trout and large rainbows. PR844-3C Designed for redfish and permit, this is the three-piece carry-on version of our PR844 casting rod. It's a good all-around flats rod for larger fish, working well for small live bait as well as spoons and jigs. PR844-3S The spinning version of our three-piece PR844. Although not recommended for large fish, it has, on occasion, taken small tarpon, sharks and big snook. The perfect choice for flylining live bait like shrimp, minnows and small crabs, and casts spoons and jigs equally well. A great choice for permit and redfish. PR844C Like its spinning counterpart, this is a good all-around flats rod, working well for most small live bait as well as spoons and jigs. Although not recommended for large fish, anglers have taken tarpon, sharks and large snook with this rod on occasion. PR845C Designed to offer flats fisherman a little stronger action for larger redfish and permit, but it has fast become the rod of choice for striper fishermen throwing crankbaits. It isn't an overpowering rod, but it has more than enough strength to handle fish up to 15 or 20 pounds in relatively heavy current, and even fish in lakes or slack tidal conditions. PR902C We designed the 902 specifically for fishing Texas Gulf tidal flats, giving it a very fast tip for making quick, accurate casts to cruising redfish. It's intended for throwing lighter baits and jigs. The taper gives a Kelly Wiggler or a Trout Tail just the right action. Also makes a great long-range bonefish rod. PR904-2S Looking for a good all-around light saltwater rod with enough length for long casts and long-range hook sets? You've found it. Two-piece for ease in storage and pack ability, its tip is light, yet powerful and capable of throwing heavier jigs and handling bigger fish. It's capable of taking on redfish, small tarpon, bonefish and seatrout
