Gloomis 4 to 6 Weight Fly Rod

These are the most popular fly rod sizes in the world. Targeted mainly at trout, but also capable of taking on smallmouth bass and panfish, our four to six-weights excel at casting and presenting a wide variety of dries, emergers, nymphs and streamers. Whether you fish streams, rivers or lakes, using floating, sink tip or full-sink lines, there's a rod here (if not three or four of them) that will blow your mind. Case in point, our GLX models. Lighter than seemingly possible, these rods cast tight loops at high speeds with buttery-smooth precision—whether you're aiming 10 feet away or 50. There really is no comparable rod on the market. Perfectly suited to cast small and medium-size flies in most conditions, the 9-foot #5 is the most versatile of all, recommended by virtually every fly shop as the prime all-around size. For small flies and lighter tippets, a four-weight will offer greater delicacy and finesse. Six-weights, conversely, will aid in overcoming moderate wind conditions, in turning over larger flies, and in landing the oversized surprises we all dream about.

FR904    Length: 7'6''    Line: 4
This is a very versatile small stream rod, capable of casting any small fly and even some streamers. It makes an excellent all-purpose model for smaller streams and shorter casting applications, as well as a very fine panfish rod. The GL3's stiffer tip gives it a little more punch, while the GLX's ultralight weight and Progressive Power taper make it feel super light and smooth
at any distance.

FR1086    Length: 9'    Line: 6
Ten years ago, a nine-foot six-weight was the standard for western trout anglers. As rod materials have improved and rods have become lighter and stronger, the #6 has taken a back seat to the 5-weight. It's now the ''in between'' size for the transition from trout fishing to warmwater species. Capable of remarkably long casts, the 1086 also has the ability to make delicate presentations-especially in windy conditions where a #5 can't quite handle it. This is a good streamer rod, and it admirably casts the oversized, wind-resistant poppers, stoneflies and hoppers so popular on the larger streams of the high desert. It's also an excellent rod for ultralight saltwater applications on the flats, going after bonefish and small mangrove snapper.
