Gloomis 4 to 6 Weight Fly Rod |
|
| |
|
|
| |
These are the most popular fly
rod sizes in the world. Targeted mainly at trout, but also
capable of taking on smallmouth bass and panfish, our four to
six-weights excel at casting and presenting a wide variety of
dries, emergers, nymphs and streamers. Whether you fish
streams, rivers or lakes, using floating, sink tip or
full-sink lines, there's a rod here (if not three or four of
them) that will blow your mind. Case in point, our GLX models.
Lighter than seemingly possible, these rods cast tight loops
at high speeds with buttery-smooth precision—whether you're
aiming 10 feet away or 50. There really is no comparable rod
on the market. Perfectly suited to cast small and medium-size
flies in most conditions, the 9-foot #5 is the most versatile
of all, recommended by virtually every fly shop as the prime
all-around size. For small flies and lighter tippets, a
four-weight will offer greater delicacy and finesse.
Six-weights, conversely, will aid in overcoming moderate wind
conditions, in turning over larger flies, and in landing the
oversized surprises we all dream about.

FR904
Length: 7'6'' Line: 4
This is a very versatile small
stream rod, capable of casting any small fly and even some streamers.
It makes an excellent all-purpose model for smaller streams and
shorter casting applications, as well as a very fine panfish rod. The
GL3's stiffer tip gives it a little more punch, while the GLX's
ultralight weight and Progressive Power taper make it feel super light
and smooth
at any distance.

Travel
This travel rod is well suited to
small and medium-size streams where long casts aren't necessary for
success, but light leaders and small flies are. The smaller, more
slender grip offers added comfort, control and sensitivity for anglers
with smaller hands. Despite its lower price, this is a serious fishing
tool for demanding light-duty trout and panfish applications.

The 1204 is a highly specialized
fly rod, designed to allow a gentle upstream presentation for
dead-drifting nymphs in pocket water. The extra length also offers
extended casting range and better line clearance for float tubing.
Fish it with a double taper fly line and it's an excellent roll
caster, providing supreme mending control. If you're looking for a
challenge, this is a pleasant surprise as it handles big fish
remarkably well

FR1025 Length: 8'6''

This is a highly versatile size for
small through medium trout flies. Very, very light feeling compared to
standard 9-footers, the 8-1/2' length helps to speed up the false cast
cycle. The GL3 is the stiffest of the models. And the GLX's
progressive taper and fine diameter tip make it easy to load even at
short distances, with excellent tippet preservation.

FR1085 Length: 9' Line: 5
This is the bread and butter trout
rod for most anglers. A great choice for all-around versatility and
performance. The GLX is the lightest, finest casting 9' 5-weight in
the industry, as determined by more than a few shoot-outs, comparison
tests and university studies. The GL3 is a little stiffer, punchier
version thanks to its multi-taper tip. And the GL2 is a progressive
taper rod that's tough, yet loads easily and smoothly.

A great rod for float tubing, where
the extra length enhances castability and line control. The 1175 also
makes a really nice nymph rod for larger streams and rivers where long
casts, tight mending and roll casts are required. If you fish western
lakes, this would make a delightful back-up rod, especially
considering the affordable GL3 price.

FR1086 Length: 9' Line: 6
Ten years ago, a nine-foot
six-weight was the standard for western trout anglers. As rod
materials have improved and rods have become lighter and stronger, the
#6 has taken a back seat to the 5-weight. It's now the ''in between''
size for the transition from trout fishing to warmwater species.
Capable of remarkably long casts, the 1086 also has the ability to
make delicate presentations-especially in windy conditions where a #5
can't quite handle it. This is a good streamer rod, and it admirably
casts the oversized, wind-resistant poppers, stoneflies and hoppers so
popular on the larger streams of the high desert. It's also an
excellent rod for ultralight saltwater applications on the flats,
going after bonefish and small mangrove snapper.
