Here’s our top, all-around choice for steelhead and salmon. If you’re fishing in close, you can still turn over large flies. If that perfect little cut is 85 feet away, no problem; it’s a good long-distance rod as well, with positive line control and power to spare. This rod will handle king salmon up to about 30 pounds in most water conditions. Although it’s a very powerful stick, it’s still comfortable after hours of casting.
