Gloomis Steelhead
Rods
We believe the two most important factors in a steelhead rod are line
control and sensitivity. That’s one reason we build our Steelhead Rods in
such a wide variety of lengths and power ratings—so no matter where you
fish, or with what technique, there’s a steelhead rod that offers you
maximum control. If you fish small coastal streams, you can get by with a
shorter rod. If, on the other hand, you frequent big, wide rivers, longer
rods are definitely the way to go (for a variety of reasons, including
optimum line angle, river drag and sensitivity). As for sensitivity, it
doesn’t matter whether you plunk, drift-fish from shore, or use a boat:
knowing what’s going on at the end of your line is absolutely crucial for
successful steelheading. These fish may be big, but for the most part
their bite is incredibly subtle. That’s why we design these rods with a
fairly soft tip and the most sensitive materials possible. Select the rod
that matches your angling situation and be sure to give careful
consideration to the different levels of graphite performance available.

STR1024C Length: 8'6" Power: 4 Pieces: 2 Casting
|
| A good winter-run rod. A great
summer-run rod. In other words, our best all-around steelhead rod. This is
an especially good choice for fishing small to medium-sized rivers where you
have sufficient room to work a fish once it's hooked. It balances perfectly
with ten pound line and 1/2-ounce lures, and it's surprisingly strong.
Strong enough, in fact, to handle most smaller salmon species. |

STR1024S Length: 8'6" Power: 4 Pieces: 2 Spinning
|
| A good choice for fishing small
to medium-size rivers where you have sufficient room to work a fish once
it's hooked. Best suited for 8 or 10-pound line and 1/2-ounce lures, this
rod is surprisingly strong. It will handle most smaller salmon species and
steelhead, but it's on the lighter end of the spectrum. |

STR1025C Length: 8'6" Power: 5 Pieces: 2 Casting
|
| This winter steelhead rod
provides the extra power necessary to fish higher water conditions and
swifter currents. On average, winter steelies run larger than their summer
cousins, so the extra backbone is a big advantage. Rated for up to 17-pound
line, the 1025C is beefy enough for Chinooks, but better suited to chums,
sockeyes and cohos. |

STR1025S Length: 8'6" Power: 5 Pieces: 2 Spinning
|
|
| Designed for winter steelhead,
where you need a little more backbone due to the larger weights required to
fish high water conditions, the 1025s has sufficient power to fish salmon,
best suited for silvers and chums. Because it has the power to move fish and
bring them boat-side without a chase, this is a good choice for both boat
and bank fishing. |

STR1082C Length: 9' Power: 2 Pieces: 2 Casting
|
|
| The 1082C is a very nice
light-action summer-run steelhead rod, designed to fish 6 to 10-pound line
in low, clear water conditions. It has a light, responsive tip with a fairly
soft midsection that allows you to lob small lures or bait to spooky fish.
The butt section, however, is still fairly powerful, allowing you to handle
large fish as well. While it's designed with light line applications in
mind, this rod can also handle small salmon on 10-pound test, which makes it
a nice option for low-water fall fishing. |

STR1083C Length: 9' Power: 3 Pieces: 2 Casting
|
|
| A specialty rod designed to fish
large summer-run steelhead rivers and late summer/early fall low-water
conditions in coastal ^STReams for salmon. It fishes optimally with 10-pound
line, giving you a little better leverage on big fish, but still allows you
to downsize for clear water situations. It has the power to handle a twenty
pound silver or chum and still let you drop down to 6-pound test if you need
to. A good all-around drift rod. |

STR1083S Length: 9' Power: 3 Pieces: 2 Spinning
|
|
| Like its casting cousin this new
spinning version of the 1083 is designed for big summer-run steelies and
small salmon. It balances nicely with 8 to 10-pound line, allowing you to
downsize your baits and lures in clear, low-water conditions. In fact, you
can drop all the way down to 6-pound test, yet still have the power to
handle a 20-pound steelhead. A good all-around drift rod, and a
better-than-average spoon rod for big western rivers. |
